About AKF

AKF Partners helps investors, boards, and executive teams understand, improve, and scale technology organizations.

We work with companies where technology is central to value creation. That includes software businesses, digital platforms, marketplaces, fintech, healthcare technology, data products, AI-enabled companies, and technology-enabled services. Our work helps clients answer the questions that matter most: Can the platform scale? Is the architecture fit for the next stage of growth? Is the team organized to deliver? Are there risks that could slow the business down? Where can technology create more enterprise value?

Our Story

AKF was founded in 2007 by Marty Abbott, Mike Fisher, and Tom Keeven.

The firm began with a simple but important observation: fast-growing technology companies often outgrow more than their systems. They outgrow their architecture, operating model, delivery practices, team structure, leadership approach, and ability to make clear decisions at scale.

AKF’s early work focused on helping companies solve those scaling problems. The firm became known for bringing structure to complex technology growth challenges, including through the AKF Scalability Cube — a model developed to create a clear, practical language for scaling services, data, transactions, teams, and processes.

That foundation still shapes AKF today.

From the beginning, AKF has approached technology as an operating system for the business, not just a collection of platforms, tools, and code. Architecture matters. So do people, process, product discipline, leadership, data, reliability, security, and the ability to execute.

Over time, AKF’s work expanded from scalability advisory into technical due diligence, sell-side readiness, product and engineering assessment, AI/ML evaluation, interim leadership, board advisory, and post-close technology improvement. But the core idea has remained the same: technology only creates value when it can scale with the business.

What We Do

We help clients evaluate technology before an investment, strengthen technology after close, and improve execution during periods of growth, transition, or change.

Our work includes technical due diligence, sell-side readiness, technology strategy, architecture review, product and engineering operating model assessment, AI/ML evaluation, scalability planning, delivery improvement, interim leadership, and executive advisory.

We are often brought in when the stakes are high: a transaction is moving quickly, a board needs an independent view, a platform must scale, a technology leader has left, product delivery is slowing, or the company needs a practical plan to move from current state to target state.

How We Work

AKF’s approach is direct, practical, and grounded in evidence.

We look beyond surface-level answers and assess how technology actually operates inside the business. We review systems, teams, processes, data flows, technical debt, security posture, delivery practices, and leadership structure. Then we translate that assessment into clear findings, business implications, and actionable recommendations.

Our goal is not to produce a long list of theoretical concerns. Our goal is to help clients make better decisions.

For investors, that means understanding whether technology supports the investment thesis, where risks exist, and what should be addressed after close.

For executives, that means getting a clear view of what is working, what is holding the company back, and how to improve delivery, scalability, reliability, and organizational effectiveness.

For boards, that means having an independent, operator-led perspective on the technology capabilities that drive enterprise value.

Why Clients Work With AKF

Clients work with AKF because we bring the judgment of operators who have sat in the seat.

We understand the tradeoffs companies make as they grow. We know that every system carries history, every team has constraints, and every roadmap competes with business urgency. We also know how to distinguish manageable technical debt from structural risk, normal scaling challenges from operating dysfunction, and strong technology foundations from fragile ones.

Our work is designed to be useful immediately. We provide clear findings, plain-language explanations, prioritized recommendations, and practical next steps that leadership teams can act on.

Our Perspective

Technology is not just infrastructure. It is a core part of how modern companies compete, scale, serve customers, and create value.

The best technology organizations are not defined by tools alone. They have architecture that can evolve, teams that can deliver, processes that support speed and quality, data that informs decisions, and leaders who understand how to connect technical execution to business outcomes.

AKF helps clients see that full picture.

We bring independent judgment, deep operating experience, and a clear point of view on what it takes to build technology organizations that scale.
